This Sunday, we will be returning to our Summer In The Psalms series as we explore book four of the Psalms, which covers 90-106. As a musician, I am always eager to spend more time in the Psalms, and I am reminded of a passage that I think many people miss in regard to the purpose of the Psalms, particularly in how we engage with one another in them. From Ephesians 5:15-21 (ESV):

...Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit, addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart, giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ.

In verse 19, it's easy to read that as an encouragement to sing to the Lord as part of our worship of Him. And it is true, but only partially if we stop there. The part we often miss is the first three words of that verse: "Addressing one another." This is an incredibly important part of our musical worship that is often overlooked. Do we sing to the Lord? Absolutely. But what we declare in worship together is not only intended to glorify the Lord, but to edify one another with the truth of God's word; to encourage one another through our testimony of God's faithfulness; to remind one another of the awesome power and wondrous grace of our holy God. We are called to bring our songs to the Lord together not only for His glory, but for our good.

So, as we jump into book four of the Psalms (which spends a great deal of its chapters simply declaring the glory of God), let us sing these psalms and songs together to remind one another of the steadfast love of our Heavenly Father.

Men, 2nd Wednesday is Coming! || 7/8 || 6:30 - 7:35 AM || The Springs Fireside Room
Men, we hope you'll plan to join us on July 8th at 6:30 AM for our July Men's 2nd Wednesday gathering! Father's Day may be past, but we will be building on our June session as Jacob Fox leads us in part two of a discussion on Fathers - this time focusing on what it looks like to live out biblical fatherhood. Come ready for some great dialogue, coffee, and snacks! We'll see you there!

Women's Ministry's "Summer Spark" || 7/11 || 7:00 PM || Liz Logan's Home
Ladies, join us for this fun, joy-filled gathering where women can spark new friendships, ignite their faith, gather to connect, grow and support each other. Information cards are available in the Lobby! Please bring a camping chair and a dessert or drinks to share!

Men's Ministry's "Thriller from the Griller" || 7/17 || 6:00 - 9:00 PM || The Gym
What's the "Thriller from the Griller" you ask?? It's an event for men at The Springs to enjoy an epic movie together while eating some incredible BBQ. This year we will be watching Angel Studio's "Bonhoeffer: Pastor, Spy, Assassin" and having our annual Grilling Competition! The movie details the life of WWII era German Pastor Dietrich Bonhoeffer, a man who showed incredible faith and commitment to Christ in the face of great evil. We hope you will plan to join us on Friday, July 17th from 6:00 - 9:00 PM in the gym! Be sure to look for the sign up in the lobby to let us know you're coming and if you'd also like to contribute to the grilling and compete for the chance to be crowned champion of the grillers!
If you have questions or are unable to sign up in the lobby, please contact either Josh Zinner (816-550-1615) or Trent Moberly (309-830-8094).

Summer in the Psalms - God's Playlist
Did you know that the Psalms are actually divided into five books? Starting June 28th, The Springs will be reading through the fourth book of the Psalms, which includes chapters 90-106. This initiative will be a great way to spend some daily time in the Word and will be a great study for new to seasoned believers alike. We are also excited to spend time in the same book together as a congregation!

Bookmarks for the summer reading plan are now available in the Lobby!

*There will also be a Summer in the Psalms Sunday morning class available starting July 12th at 10:30 AM.

FBC Praise and Thanks to our FBC Volunteers!
We are praising God for an amazing week of Family Bible Camp-"Knights of the Kingdom"! We had 87 campers (and their families) at FBC this year! We praise God for how He helped us learn that He is the King of Kings who wins the battle and also gives us His strength and the Armor of God to be ready for battle. Please pray that these truths will sink deep into the hearts of the campers, families, and volunteers that participated. FBC Volunteers, the week wouldn't have been possible without you! THANK YOU for giving your time and energy at FBC; thank you for investing in God's kingdom! We appreciate you!
